ISHRS Guideline

The ethical principals adopted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery ( ISHRS ) define the essentials of honorable behavior for the hair restoration surgeon.
  • We, being member of the ISHRS, are obliged to act according to the highest moral and professional standards
  • We will adhere to the codes of ethics as set by the Hong Kong Medical Councils
  • We recognizes that a greater moral responsibility is necessary in hair transplant surgery than in many other fields because of the lack of oversight by government and/or peer review and the emotional involvement of the patient
  • We acknowledge that we are in a position of trust and will not betray that trust
  • We will not take emotional or financial advantages of patients
  • We acknowledge that we are in a position to affect each patient’s appearance and self-confidence. When we offer treatment options the life long effect and progression of hair loss are considered
  • We will recommend treatment for each patient as we would recommend for ourselves or another family member under the same circumstances. Treatment can also be modified to accommodate for individual variation
  • We will not promote any technique or an opinion which is not accepted by the majority of the profession as a whole
  • We would not be trademarking and copywriting names for common terms just for marketing purposes. We will maintain truth and integrity in advertising and avoid deceptive communications
  • We will not denigrate our colleagues using false or misleading information with the intent of injuring their reputation or business by any means, either directly or indirectly to include print, radio, television, Internet advertising, Internet website activity, or any other public statement made by our representative
  • We with knowledge of an illegal or improper act(s) by another physician would report such activity to the appropriate agency
  • We shall continue to study, apply and advance scientific knowledge
  • All patient’s confidences shall be kept private. Information will be divulged only with the permission of the patient except as otherwise required by law

This Code of Ethics was adopted from the ISHRS Code of Ethics last amended by the membership on October 17, 2003
