After Care

Warning : The following recommendations only apply to our patients. If you have a procedure in another center please ask your doctor for his own protocol. Different centers would use different techniques so using our istruction blindly may damage your newly transplanted grafts.

General Care

Please follow our instruction to get the best result. Call us for any concern.

  Diet
Do not over eat the night after surgery. It is normal to feel a bit nausea.
Can eat anything but not too salty for 3 days to reduce swelling of the forehead.

Getting into Cars
Be careful when you get into a car! Make sure your head will not hit the rim of the door or the roof - the transplanted grafts can be dislodged. For the same reason beware of the cupboard door.

Sleeping
There is no need to sleep on sofa or chair. Just sleep normally in bed.
It is normal to feel tight where the strip was removed. If you experience discomfort lying on pillow, just roll a towel under your neck or use a neck pillow. Taking some pain-killer before sleep also helps. Sleeping pills are also provided to be taken if needed.

Pain Control
Discomfort after hair transplant is minimal. Everyone has a different pain threshold but most of our patients do not take any pain-killer at all.
We provided "Panadol Extend", a special formulation, to be taken as required. Stronger pain-killer can given on your request.
The tightness around the donor wound will settle after the sutures are removed.

Head band
The scalp is closed to the bone. Working on the scalp may injury the deep seated nerves and blood vessels.
Damage can be prevented by injecting our specially prepared fluid called Tumescence to lift up the scalp, away from the bone.
3 days after surgery this fluid may drain down to the forehead and around the eyes. Once happens, takes a long time to settle. Wearing a headband for 3 days is our special technique. None of our patients have eye swelling when use it as instructed.

Removal of Sutures
Sutures may create some discomfort at the back of your head, but these are important to minimize donor scar.
We are using 2 types of suture. One of them has to be removed on Day 5-7, by us or your local doctor. The other will dissolve after 4 weeks.

Skin Numbness and Itchiness
Numbness in the transplanted area is normal. Normal sensation returns after several weeks.
Itchiness also occur, relieved by proper hair wash and a special cream (provided).

Folliculitis and Pimples
After transplanted the old hair shaft sheds and makes way for the new one. Sometimes the old hair gets stuck and causes a minor local inflammation - folliculitis. It has no effect on the final growth, happens more often in hot weather and those sweat a lot.
Management is simple - remove the old hair shaft, squeeze out the pus, and apply antibiotic cream. We routinely check for folliculitis during follow-up.

Shedding of Hair
Some shedding of existing hair may occur both in the donor and recipient areas. This is called shock loss and is unpredictable. If care properly the hair always grows back after a few months. The shedding can be reduced by using Minoxidil for 4 months.

Minoxidil
If you have been using Minoxidil, resume after 10 days.

Hair Cut and Hair Dye
You can cut or dye your hair after one month. Leave hair longer at the back to cover any possible hair shedding. The hair always grow back, no worry.
Hair cut is available in our center by professional hairdresser at a cost of HKD150.

  How to Wash
After transplant, the skin of the graft will form a dry scab. This is itchy and unsightly if left alone, and can be removed by proper washing.
  • First 7 days - wash your scalp once to twice a day, padding with your fingers but without rubbing.
  • After 7 Days - wash at least once a day. Gentle rubbing is allowed.
  • After 14 days - wash your routine way.
Blow Dry
You can blow dry with cool air.

What Shampoo to used
The first 2 weeks you should use one of the followings. After 2 weeks you can use any good quality shampoo.
  • Johnson Baby Shampoo - purchased from any supermarket or drug store
  • Graftcyte Shampoo - a special formulation for hair transplant
Hair conditioner / Styling Gel
It can be used right after surgery but don't apply onto the scalp. Just onto the hair. Do not use hair spray for 10 days.
