Retention Suture - A Special Wound Closing Technique
Principle :
Create mechanical creep for tension free closure
Close approximation of wound edges allows better scar
Development :
Retention suture has been used in abdominal surgery for decades. Dr Pathomvanich (Thailand) adopted the technique into donor wound closure. Satisfactory results have been observed in more than 1,000 cases, including :
Early removal of stitches on day 5 hastens recovery
No unsightly stitch marks
Even tight wound can be closed without tension
No buried stitches results in less tissue reaction
Detail of Our Technique :
Wound is first pulled and held together with strong Nylon suture
Flaps are stretched to allow close approximation
Fine absorbable suture seals the wound like a zipper
Results of Our Combined Closing Techniques :
Please note the hairs growing within the scar. More photos in Our Gallery.
